Focused ultrasound

Ultrasound technology is widely used in medecine, for imaging and treatment

Use of ultrasound in ophthalmology

Ultrasound is widely used in ophthalmology, in different areas, such as diagnostic (use of Ultrasound Biomicroscopy - UBM) for the imaging of the anterior chamber of the eye, or treatment (phacoemulsification for cataract procedure for example)

Principles of focused ultrasound

Focused ultrasound have already been used in many medical fields such as in the treatment of certain tumors and some neurological diseases.

WHAT IS FOCUSED ULTRASOUND?

Like a magnifying glass focusing beams of light on a single point, focused ultrasound concentrates ultrasound energy on a target in the body without harming healthy surrounding tissue.

Our application for glaucoma

When used at high frequency, focused ultrasound can coagulate tissues with pinpoint accuracy.
EYE TECH CARE developed a miniaturized device adapted to the eye anatomy, where focused ultrasound can coagulate portions of the ciliary body, in order to reduce the production of aqueous humor, thus reducing the intraocular pressure.

Position of the probe on the eye
The ultrasound beams are focused on the ciliary body

The ultrasound beam easily passes through the biological tissues, without causing damage, and therefore targeting the deep tissues without the need for opening the eye (non-invasive technique)
Our unique patented technology allows high precision of the focal zone, and control of the temperature rise at the focal point.
